We study how RNA’s sequence and structure shapes the cell

The Cheung Lab investigates the basic biology of RNA and how its dysregulation contributes to human disease.

What drives the lab

We study the basic biology of RNA, particularly how their sequences and structures affect cellular functions.  We focus on understanding mechanisms, and how dysregulation leads to diseases.

We believe that people from different backgrounds and varied lived experiences are essential for solving challenging problems and bringing effective solutions to everyone.

We study RNA by integrating human genetics, molecular biology, and computational approaches. We focus on transcription and co-transcriptional steps that process RNA for their proper functions.  We also study how dysregulation in these steps leads to neurological diseases such as ALS and Alzheimer's Disease.
